i strongly agree with joy bhi.... this is extreamly shamefull for the ARMY OF BD and I have also heard that Dhaka will be divided under four part and 4 councillar will be selected by this present care taker goverment. Few army Generals intentions are being exposed now. Taking advantage of a political situation, they took over power. Did some re-form work to gain popularity at the beginning, and now their mask is being unmasked. People of Bangladesh didn't support this govt to impose curfew to limit student protest. Support for this govt is being diminished because their ill intentions are rising to the surface every day.
It doesn't take two years to hold a free and fair election. We do not want to be like Pakistan, we are proud citizens of Bangladesh. And ill wish of Army generals ruling our country with iron fist will not be tolerated. People are speaking; we are rising against this undemocratic government. We want election as soon as possible. We want our proud Army to protect us from foreign enemy, and not to create enemy inside Bangladesh.

The following piece was picked up by the me the annonymous blogger somewhere in the Internet. Before you read it the following points should be kept in mind:

1. Pakistan has a professional army whose adventurism in politics led to the creation of Bangladesh as an independent nation.

2. Bangladesh was created following a people led revolution that ultimately defeated a professional army. Bangladesh has fought a gallant War of Independence irrespective of religion, race, class or creed to achieve its liberation.

Any attempt to rewrite its pillars of foundation will violently jerk it off its orbit. Bangladesh must not be equated with Pakistan or Thailand.

3. In today's Bangladesh we see regional corps commander like figures propping up almost on a daily basis reflecting the mirror image of Musharraf's army.

4. Bush's days are numbered. Naturally, the dictator's oxygen tanks are exhausted and the deposed PMs are heading home. Dictatorships put in place by military aggression for eight long years are about to be doused.

But like Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, he is not a natural leader.

In the denouement of Shakespeare’s play, after failing to persuade Romans to align them with his rule, Coriolanus turns against Rome and is banished. In the ultimate irony, he joins the Volscians and makes war on Rome. However, his mother persuades him to call off the attack, which enrages the Volscians under Aufidius so much that they kill him. To paraphrase Aufidius, the virtues of war had become the vices of peace for the man on horseback. Dismounted, he was a sorry creature.

Coriolanus approximates the tragic heroes of an ancient Greek drama, a great man who is brought low by his hubris. Over-riding egoism can only terminate in desolation, as Plato said. Such an ego prevents Musharraf from developing an exit strategy since he is convinced of his indispensability.

Shakespeare endues his central character with a deeper flaw in the form of a pathological dependency upon his mother. As she reminds him in two pivotal scenes, he is her creation. In the end, Coriolanus cannot simply sever himself from the body politic of his motherland, for his identity depends upon his mother’s esteem.

General Musharraf is a creature of the army, which is his “mother.” The nine Corps Commanders, symbolizing this mother, lurk in the background and appear on stage whenever major decisions are being made. In the end, they were the ones who prevailed upon Musharraf to change his mind about the uniform".

Are we back in 71 ?

Just read in today's news that joint force have arrested 5 teachers of Dhaka and Rajshahi Universities. All of the teachers are high profile, besides that they are active against government's action to students.

While I was reading the news, it seems Bangladesh Army (and RAB) is following the same procedure as Pakistani Army in 71, who took the teachers out and never returned them back. They even said "Sir, could you come with us for few hours?" Pity, what a reflection of 71! This is 2007 and perhaps the CTG won't be able to do any physical harm to these professors because of media. But see, the ghost of Pakistan is still alive in Bangladesh.

It was a bad move for the army and government indeed. Not sure whos plot was it (Moinul, Moeen or which new General), but can be sure they are driven by the Rajakar mentality of Jamat and bringing their fall sooner than we expected.

Let me join you all in declaring, "This is the beginning of the end for this regime." However, this is with a sense of eerie urgency that I write. The military has reached a point of no return. They will unleash the soldiers of the dark night and they will not go quitely into oblivion... they will make their presence felt. This is worrisome... LAW LIBERTY LIFE in Bangladesh is at stake.

Dhaka University's incident is the ultimate expression of the hidden dangerous teeth of the future dictator in Bangladesh in different form than before.

First symtom was clear when Sheikh Hasina was banned to return her mother Bangladesh.

Now without taking any step about the recent killing on 21 August the government fighting for false case against her.

As a former student of Law Faculty in Dhaka University I condemn the military interferance in a naket form.

I do suggest to train them properly specially how to behave with outside people and should have gain special knowledge about the sentiment and historical contribution made by the Dhaka University students.

My question is that if the government take oath under the Constitution why they need support from military, they are the servants of the government, they bound to help in any cause.

But Barrister mainul Hosein pointng this matter already vitiated the government's legality which obviously be challenged in future.

And I wonder is there any respectful way out for the so called care taker government who is now engaged in beating and torture to students and journalists inhumane and degrading manner.

General Moin U Ahmed most probably the most helped person by this government than my neighbour who still without food and proper clothing by the devastated flood.

All this is well, it is about time that people realize the state of bangladesh. Arresting political leaders in the name of corruption and doing nothing about skyrocketing prices isn't going to work. The CTG have even failed terribly to support the flood victims.

But I was immensely surprised by the two main Western Nations' statements. They are fully supporting every actions of the CTG without any question. They have even gone as far as saying that it is indeed necessary to put curfew! Alas! And these are the nations who yell to bring democracy all over the world. What a double standard world we live in, truly a shame....

Feeling - helpless again. I never heard "The mobile phone network has been shut down" in any other country in any given situation. But it happens here in Bangladesh and pretty often. My 4 year old Niece is suffering from fever after the recent flood and my sister was helpless with that, but doctors were in touch by cell phone- tonight i am not sure what she is doing- its curfew here in Dhaka and no mobile network. I can’t go to see them, I don’t know anything about them. One of my colleague lives 50 miles away from Dhaka- I am not sure whether he reached his home or not. It’s really a life in jail, 150 million people of Bangladesh are living in jail - at least for tonight.

This is the beginning of the end for this dictatorial regime.

The day they arrested "Our Netri," the biggest blunder they made. In the name of eradicating corruption, the military sharks embarked on destroying our hard earned move towards democracy. Putting our Netri behind bars while allowing Khaleda (the thief mother) to conduct political teleconferences and leaving alone the corrupt retired army officers and Mannan Bhuiyas is nothing but a travesty of the anti-corruption drive.

Bangladesh is NOT Pakistan. We Bengali's hate military rule. The Dhaka University incident is adequete proof of that. Fakruddin & Moinul Hossain can blame it on "sharthanneshi mohol" but in this case, they are forgetting that "we the people" is that mohol.

The day is coming when Our Netri wil walk out like Our Father of the Nation, BongoBondhu did. That day is not too far.

Remember, “History, repeated itself.” If you heard BBC you may realize what’s going on Bangladesh. Successfully there is no difference between BTV and other satellite channels.
