Events So Far

Once again, I must apologize for taking so long to post. School is keeping me really busy. With class, recruiting for a job and homework I am working 12-14 hours a day. That leaves a little bit of time to spend with my family, but not much. On top of that, I was down with the flu for an entire week so I've fallen really behind.

My mother's 60th birthday has come and gone. None of us were allowed to even speak to her. It is now almost three months since she has been arrested. She continues to be held without a trial. This is a 60 year old woman, a former Prime Minister, being held without a trial for three months. This makes a mockery of due process.

The regime continues to tell foreign representatives and government officials that my mother is being kept in luxury. This is another blatant lie. She is being kept in virtual solitary confinement. She has still not been allowed access to telephones. She has not received treatment for the damage caused to her ears in the August 21st, 2004 grenade attack. It causes her severe headaches and nausea. The bed she was given had broken. I don't know if it has been replaced yet. This is not living in luxury.

In the meanwhile, Fakruddin was here in the US. He was questioned repeatedly about due process and kept repeating the phrase "Law of the land." If he was indeed following the law of the land, why would he feel the need to keep defending it? Bangladeshi law prohibits detention without bail in all but capital cases. So Fakruddin is clearly lying.

Fakruddin spoke at the Asia Foundation, but only selected people were allowed to ask questions. Outside of those, many hands were raised but all were refused. Clearly he had something to hide. When he spoke at Columbia University they were not able to keep such a tight rein on questions and some difficult ones were raised, which he essentially ignored. This is clearly not the mark of an upstanding man of integrity. In fact, this is exactly how a dirty politician acts.

In fact, I've learnt from a very confidential and trusted source that before accepting the position of Chief Advisor, Fakruddin's condition was that he be given three years to rule. How does a non elected appointee demand to rule for three years? And yes, this is from a very senior and respected source.

In the meanwhile, there riots appear to be breaking out on a regular basis in Bangladesh. One week it is laborers in an Export Processing Zone. Another week it is workers at a garments factory. In each case this regime cracks down with brutality. In half of the incidents at least one protester has been killed by the police. Have we become savages? Why is it that our civil society doesn't even bat an eyelid at these murders?

Yet, the Islamists have been protesting every Friday for three weeks against a cartoon. Far from cracking down on this violation of emergency, this regime has allowed these protests to continue. This simply adds to the complete immunity this regime has shown to Jamaat-e-Islami for corruption and terrorism. Do we need any more evidence of this regime's fundamentalist leanings?

I ask all patriotic Bangladeshi's to keep raising awareness about what is happening in our country. We will not lie down and let these people turn out country back 17 years. We do not want Bangladeshi to become another Pakistan.

Hi Mr. Wazed,

I hope you are doing well. I am a Bangladeshi living in Boston.

I want to keep this brief and wanted to know one thing from you. I am not sure if you are aware that the Bangladesh army chief General Moeen is coming to Boston to deliver a speech at your school on the 21st of this month.

If you are, then I wanted to know if you are organizing any protest at the Kennedy school of Government when he arrives. As a believer of Democracy and with the belief that our beloved motherland could once again go into an army rule.

If you are arranging something then I would like to participate to show my support for both your Mother and our leader Sheikh Hasina. If you can let me know your program regarding the matter I would greatly appreciate.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and hopefully help you in whatever way within my capacity to the cause.

Dear Sajeeb vai:

Welcome back again. Hope you recover from flu and fine now. We pray to Allah, for release of Honorable Sheikh Hasina before EID and all of our leaders release. Without a trial or without proper accusation arrest: is surely violation of human rights. All Bangladeshi’s are aware of the conspiracy of this regime. Very soon this regime will fall. Hope we will have a nice EID with our leaders while they’re free. EID MUBARAK! To all Bangladeshi people all over the world.

Regards
Iftheker Mohammad

Let me bring up another interesting point.

Recently suddenly Trust Bank went public. The shares rose 750% on the first day of trading. The Chairman of this bank is Moeen U Ahmed. His brother is the MD. Why doesn't Moeen tell us how much he and his brother made?

Another thing - Why is that his brother who is the MD of the bank make over 3 times the salary of his Deputy MD?

Is it common for MD's to make 5.5 lakhs a month while the deputy makes 1.7 lakhs?

Is this not stealing?

Sajeeb,

Dr. Yunus is also coming to Harvard. I wonder what he has to say about all this. So far, there has been nothing from him, other than occassional tacit, and sometimes explicit, support for the regime of the day, whoever they are.

Gen. Moeen U Ahmed's biography at Bangaldesh army website states that he is a graduate of Harvard. The biography that was published in newspapers when he was appointed army chief in 2005 did not report this. What did he study at harvard and when?

Sajeeb Wazed said...

General Moeen attended an Executive Education Program at Harvard. I have taken one of these as well a couple of years ago. Just about any senior executive can attend these programs.

Admission as a degree student is a far more rigorous process. For one thing, admission applications to the Executive Programs aren't reviewed by the Admission's Committee, no grades or tests are required, etc. This year Harvard accepted only 9.8% of applicants and those represent the top 99.5 percentile of students.

Moeen is certainly not a graduate of Harvard!

I thought you should know that Moeen U Ahmed's elder brother has a luxorious vacation home or "bagan bari" where he keeps 17 endangered deers and a bear! Wndering why he wasnt arrested for keeping endangered wild animals?

Another advice for you: the "innocent" msg you are getting from Bostonians claiming to help you in the protesting Moeen's harvard speech, pleaes dont fall for it. BD intelligence is just trying to find out ab. your plans for regarding Moeen's visit.

Attending one of those executive 7day money-grabbing programs and claiming oneself a harvard graduate speaks volume about the character and psychological inferiority of Moeen. The Kennedy school is also an easy access window of harvard, yet it is not one of those harvard-logo-for-sale executive programs!

Sajeeb,
You do not have to publish this, may be it is better not to publish this, but take some action. It may already be too late.

I have contacted a few people without any result. Bring this up with higher ups of AL. Use all of your contacts in internatinal and national level.

If you do not publish it in the blog, send me an email to let me know that your are working on it.

I have my reservation about the way the government is going about
preparing the voter list. Bangladesh is experimenting with a system that
requires citizens to come to a central location to register to get a voter
ID card. This card will also serve as a national ID card. This raises major
concerns and issues as listed below:

1. Since the army operates these centers, people will feel intimidated to
visit them.
2. Various ethnic and religious minorities have grievance against the
army. How can you expect people in CHT to come to these centers?
3. There are many who feel that the army was involved in voter
suppression and intimidation during 2001 election. This is especially true
for Hindu voters.
4. How can you expect that women in rural areas will come to these
centers?
5. This latest voter registration procedure is clear violation of HC
order regarding the voter list.

Sajeeb mama,

you should be cautious about who are contacting you at the moment. I am sure the RAJAKAR JAMAATis and BD intelligence might be trying to get some info about your programs through "FAKE SYMPATHIZERS"

as for voter list ...they are planning to oncorporate over 7 m FOREIGN FAKE voters . atbest 3 m bangalis are staying abroad....so EC's estimate of 10 m expatriates is also concocted as well.

Sajeeb mama,
Try contacting the foreign allies THAT MATTER. I am sure they wont let us down and watch out for STALKERS and INTRUDERS too.
