I need to apologize to all my regular readers. I have been unable to update in quite a while. My new semester just started and I've been rather tied up. Now classes have started and I am a little more settled, so I promise to try and update every week. I have also added the option to sign up for notification of new posts, so you don't have to keep coming back to check.
It has been almost two months now since my mother was arrested. We have had absolutely no contact with her. The military regime has not allowed her access to any telephones whatsoever. In the meanwhile, my sister has had a baby, without even being able to so much as speak to her mother. This is how inhuman this government is.
There is absolutely no justification in not letting my mother have access to a telephone. International law requires that people who are incarcerated be allowed to communicate with their families. Of course, there is absolutely no justification in keeping my mother incarcerated. If she really were corrupt, what difference would it make if she were in custody or not until after her trial?
It's no secret that this regime's goal is to eliminate my mother from politics. They call it their "minus-2" plan. That is why my mother is incarcerated. They also know how popular she is and this is why she is not allowed access to a telephone. If her voice gets out people would rise up against this government. They have to keep her silenced. They fear her.
This regime's war on corruption has become a sham. I won't take any names, but the man who headed the third most corrupt ministry in the last government is walking free, holding meetings and press conferences. There are many more like him, including from my own party, who have also been left free and allowed to blatantly violate the emergency rules while others are arrested for even making statements against the government. So much for an honest government!
I applaud Human Rights Watch and the European Parliament for the strong stance they have taken against the human rights violations of this regime. Here are links to their statements:

This is far from over. For all of our supporters and well wishers, please raise your voice in any way you can. Contact your local media. Contact your local government officials. Tell them what is happening in Bangladesh. Demand that they take action against this illegitimate regime.

Joy, did you see the anger of AL supporters against the so called outspoken CTG supporter central AL leaders? Tofail, Mukul Bose, Abu Sayed, etc, were not finding any place to hide from the general grassroot AL supporters who had to contain thier frustration for the ban on politics. Wait just to see how the AL supporters from all over Bangladesh react now towards those who supports the weird CTG notion of reconstruction of Bangladesh politics. I hope that they come to their senses.
Your mother's removal from politics (along with the queen of corruption KZ) is very necessary for the advancement of our country. Please do not mind for what I said.

We all know what’s going on here in Bangladesh. People know the true story behind the DU incident (20-23 August). This military regime compels all electronic media to show some documentary made on 20-23 August’s confrontation made by Creative Media LTD. who finance this? This documentary says, “kotipoy chatro naam dhari, bhiragoto usringkhol jubok”. But government file case against 4-du-teachers-32-others people, and most of them are students. No outsiders are blamed for this. The charge-sheeted teachers already detained are DU Teachers’ Association (Duta) General Secretary Prof Anwar Hossain and Sciences Faculty Dean Prof Harun-or-Rashid and Duta President Prof Sadrul Amin and applied physics department Chairman Prof Neem Chandra Bhowmik. If the out comers do the incident then what is the intention behind this? We don’t know what was going on in custody. Why DU teachers allege torture in custody? Why they are tortured?

Nowhere on this document claim that Dr. Anwar Hossain, Harun-or-Rashid, Sadrul Amin, Neem Chandra Bhowmik raise that incident (Except a picture just tagged them). But they named Mobassher Monaeym and pro VC Yusuf Haider to lead the violence. Surprisingly they are not even suspected. The intention is very clear,” To color the episode a political color, and blame the politician ”. They also claimed some corrupt people spread huge amount of money all over the country to protest against them. But they don’t give charge sheet against those corrupt people. And neither they find and uncover the source of that money. So, “Pigs can fly”.
It is very important to make sure that the party does not split. Views of Messrs Suranjeet, Tofael, Amu and Razzaque can be accommodated. AL does not have to be monolithic.
Hasina Apa has done the right thing by indicating that the working committee should decide the party strategy. She has already made great personal sacrifice. This bad time will pass but the party must not become irrelevant.
Without AL and its sacrifice Urdu would have been Pakistan's national language, there would be no independent Bangladesh, Indian army would not have left in 1972, General Ershad would still be the president, the farcical election of 1996 would have been the final vote and Iajuddin would have his despotic way. People look to AL to get back their right to “bhat ebong voter odhikar”.
Hasina Apa must send a message unequivocally stating that the working committee should make its independent decision and she does not have any malice toward any party member including STAR. The collective decision may be wrong but everyone should accept that for the sake of unity -- that is party unity. Party workers can throw out the rats in next party council.
My personal feeling, I had termed STAR neo-Mushtaq. But I will soften my rhetoric for party unity.

All those AL leaders you mentioned were/and are syill being intimidated by CTG and ARMY to say such things.
ARMY threatened TOFFAIL UNCLE to kill her daughter and her husband if he doesnt comply with them. RAZZAK UNCLE is also threatened of FALSE CORRUPTION CHARGES like others if he doesnt comply with CTG and jamaat backed ARMY.
MUKUL BOSE and AMU UNCLE are threatened with FALSE CORRUPTION CHARGES if they dont comply.Since Mrs Amu is suffering from cancer Amu uncle has been compelled to comply with the RAJAKARS' will.
Mukul Bose was mercilessly beaten during the DARK BNP JAMAAT regime when he was arrested by ARMY . This time he was threatened by them as saying " MALAUNER BACCHA SHONSHAN GHATHE PATHANO HOBE TODER"
The CTG is trying to defer the electoral process in order to make the nation completely forget about BNP JAMAAT's wrongdoing.
AL should never go into election under this illegitimate evil regime. FAKU and JAMAAT have planned to add an additional 50lakh voters to the list in the name of UPDATING it with the inclusion of foreign voters. Shibir Cadres have been given the authority to update the list of voters
Just like before the ELECTION result has also been fixed. However AL is not that folloish to go to elections under this CTG.
Khaleda Zia and Tareque Babu's arrests are just mere drama.the CTG has also hanged JMJB militants to mask/protect the Jamaati godfathers

Joy Bhai, I think Morshed has made a valuable comments .I don't know about all incidents but you must note those points which he has mentioned.Please don't make any comments against the veteran Al Leaders. Actually we even don't know what the inside game these regime is playing. Basically I am not the member of AL in any form. But I feel for the existence of Bangladesh
Strength of Al is Must.
I think three cases , particularly writ petition should be sued.
1. Raising question on the legality of fakhruddin as CA.How this puppet of World bank has become CA?
2. Emergency is still valid or not as according to the constitution , emergency become invalid after 120 days. If emergency goes due to such writ petion,then they can not judge cases under emergency rule.
3. last but not least, case should be filed questioning the legality of the present CTG after three months.
CTG should be made busy and their reactive works should be hindered in every possible way.
A write petition should be lodged in the high court so that high court ask the CTG to call for election within -36 months before the verdict of cases against hasina.
If she can contest in the election, it will change every thing.
I am really surprised how a daily newspaper (Daily Naya Dignata) get the personal letters of Sheikh Hasina which she wrote to her relatives.Is it not an offence?
What kind of reforms are being implemented in the administration?
Is it the notion of reforms?
People are very aware of any misdeeds. People will hit back at the high time. So be careful.
Mr. Fakruddin and Mr. Moin should take this matter seriously. Ohterwise people will not take it easily. Beware of Jamatis who are in the administration. These people are misguiding the government.
What Is the Alternative of Election to CTG
Its clear that CTG wants to stay in Power.But its also clear in first shot they wont go any direct action for that, caz already they know there is a strong force force against it. & CTG depends on WB IMF & Army.
I think first they will call a election whos result is fixed.they wants a political party that is backed by CTG, Such as a party lead by Qureshi, BNP that is lead by mannan bhuiya or AL Lead by The sudden savior Amu.
After that They will come out from invisibleness & will grab the power.Its the style that Zia,first he put mosharaff & then he grab the power.CTG is trying to go for that, i think.
to avoid public reaction CTg will have to held an election.it wd be better for them if they wont have go for any election.but to handle situation they will have go for it.

What I am telling that arresting to stu leaders & politicians will have to be resist other wise things will be more critical . CTG should have also a strong pressure to stop arresting & besides CTG will have to leave the peoples arrested . Specially Sheikh hasina. If she did anY corruoption then she obviously will be punished. This is not the way what CTG doing.

I first want to thank you for your informative and time-demanded post.
I am delighted t see your sense of responsibility towards nation, under the huge pressure of study.
There you showed a number of evidents, that clears a view of the Conspiracy of the 'on going' rulers in Bangladesh . Though you have described all this, in your view-point focusing on your party, that's very much sufficient to know the real matter that is being happened in Bangladesh.
In my personal point of view, I see the most destructive controversy being processed.
In name of 'Clean up mission- they cleaning up all top level Leaders of Bangladesh (whether they be linked with corruption or not).
All the privet mills are being closed down, all general places of small business are being sealed.
People becoming delighted (pity on that ignorant ones) dreaming a corruption free Bangladesh. But their crop is being destroyed in the seedbed.
I am very much frustrated thinking that,if this type of work be continue for longer anymore, that will gift a nation with 'No leadership', with no self-industries, even (May God not do that) with no sovereignty (economically mainly) .
So, as a young & leading voice, you must come forward to speak against all kind of conspiracy against our dear motherland Bangladesh, standing beyond all self or party affection.
We all the patriotic young are with you.

I agree to most of the point of everybody here. Here is my observation as well as suggestion:
1) The jamat backed CTG-hatu bahini trying to break AL at any cost. So everybody should be cautious to make any comments againt any member of the AL members.
2) For stratigic reason, Sk Hasina should declear that during her absence Central Working Committee can take decision on joining dialogue with the CEC.
3) If she was barred from participation in election, so be it. Elect new leader and go to poll. AL is people backed party. So, nothing to worry. If FACU and MONU try to do something else..can not do because those days has gone. We saw it few weeks before when students and hakar uprising happened.
4)We have to remember, ai din din noy, aro din aachee..., time will come inshallah. Be united , remain united. Do let those Rajakars win over you. One think has proven, AL and other left party lack what their oponents are thinking at these time and take decision accordingly. I really missed Tajuddin at this time. Dont give up. Allah will help us to win over this Rajakars.

It is difficult for me to feel sorry for your mother, given the selfish nature with which she, and her counterpart Khaleda Zia, "lead" our country. We embraced democracy in 1991, with such fervor, hoping that at last we'd find representative leadership. All we received were assaults against us by two political wannabe dynasties with no regard for the common people. Hartals, demonstrations, failure to participate in parliament, focus on political issues rather than the peoples', all this makes news of these arrests sound like music to me.

My View is: trying to solve a problem by creating another problem, is not a wise decision. When there were problem in democracy, choosing Army, will another mistake. Independence and democracy requires patience and time to educate. As an example, India never relied to Army as a second choice and whereas, in Pakistan, Army is always an option.
Indian people relied and waited for a solution and educated themselves and the political leaders for over 50 years and now they are getting the results. Where in Pakistan, they did not want to give the politicians and themselves enough time as they choose the Army as a quick solution (like quick sand) and we can all see now how Pakistan is going to nowhere.
Now, In Bangladesh, we are seeing some people are in doubt and in illusions at the moment by this heavily army backed caretaker government but we have to understand, we need to make our democratic institutions running smoothly and give enough time, probably another 15 years at least and at least 3 more elections, things will be sorted out as it does in democracy.
On the other hand, Awami League always represented the people of Bangladesh at least more then any other parties in Bangladesh, The independence, the fight against army both in Pakistan and in Bangladesh, against hunger, against any elements that oppose our national prides and dignity. And alas, they still kept our leader, the daughter of the Father of the Nation, Sheikh Haisna. So, we decided to go outspoken against the caretaker government of Bangladesh and we are going hold a stage demonstration in front of the parliament of NSW, Australia this Tuesday (02/10/2007).
Hopefully it will be a good success and we are sending memorandum to the Speaker of the House and the to the UN Chief in Australia.

A great deal of solid advice have been given on the comments as I read them. However, I would suggest taking caution on what you utter and refrain from provocating any segment of the party. At the same time, interviews with TV channels such as BBC and CNN are over due. You must take all initiative to reach the people of Bangladesh in order to save your mother and hence AL. You must try to project what you really are and how you have been during the AL government.
A corrupt mother would certainly not leave her only son abroad to work on a salary and make millions. You are what your parents have taught you to become. I believe every child is a reflection of their parents. And you being an educated person under the good guidance of your parents actually proves that you have a mother who cannot be corrupt.
If need be you must draw up wealth statements from concerned authorities in ths US and publish them in public dismissing all the rumors of huge assets in the US. The fact that Putul Apu has to drive 2 hrs to work everyday must be highlighted. I believe that all these steps are essential to free your mother.
Bottom line: So what CTG and Army can control the media in Bangladesh. BBC and CNN are equally prominent and could be a via for saving her from the inhuman treatments. After all, Mahatma Gandhi, when he visited the first TV studio in India ages ago mentioned that there is a sense of God in media. It can do many things that an individual or a group is not capable off.
I am sure you will weigh the pros and cons and take measures at your earliest convenience. We can advise you but you are the one who should be spearheading the movement. Like it or not you have no choice but surface and get international forces to have confidence towards you, your mother, democracy, Bangladesh and eventually every loving citizen of Bangladesh.
